Author Visit to Schools
Grades 7 to 12

SHELDON OBERMAN  writer, teacher and storyteller has awards for children's and literary works. He has directed his own films and plays, written for newspapers, magazines, TV and radio and wrote the Junior Question of Scruples, Hasbro's game of ethical questions as well as songs with Fred Penner.  He currently writes Slice of Life articles for the Winnipeg Free Press

His adult books include: The Folk Festival Book, A Mirror of a People an anthology of Jewish-Canadian writing  This Business With Elijah interrelated stories based growing up in Winnipeg's North End. (on the high school curriculum) and The Shaman's Nephew; a Life in the Far North - tales told to him by a traditional Inuit hunter about life in the Arctic.

His illustrated books range from historical tales such as The White Stone in the Castle Wall to fantasies such as TV Sal and the Game Show from Outer Space.  Some of his books appeal to all ages such as The Always Prayer Shawl about the immigrant experience

PRESENTATIONS

The Writing Life - Sheldon dramatically presents stories from his illustrated books, literary works and journalism. He shows young people can use their own experiences to create fiction and non fiction and discusses the life of a writer. The presentation is adapted to various age groups and interests.

Stories of When Our Grandparents Were Young.
If your grandparents  didn't tell you about the "old days" here are tales of who we were and how we got here. We also discuss gathering one's family tales.
